Why and how did Microsoft get so successful?

I've read that approximately 93% of computers in the world run on the Windows Operating system. But how did Microsoft get so successful? Was it because of Bill Gates intellect. Or luck? And do you think there is any way to beat the Microsoft Empire. What do you think will be the next big Operating system after Microsoft and what are some functions it will have.

I believe that Bill Gates and his partners had

foresight - they anticipated what many ( in

the millions ) will need. And they know how

to create the demand for their software.

Currently, hundreds of millions ( at least )

use their software. Microsoft also satisfies

their current demand for better software

( new and improved functionalities )
